I think I am really Shallow!

I read lots of stories on this forum about travelers to Bali who buy things for poor Balinese families, visit orphanages and donate money, take their baggage allowance in second hand goods to give out to poor people etc.

Why do I never consider any of this and just go and have a good holiday?

Do the people doing this also do the same at home for charities or just when visiting a country where people seem less well off than themselves?

I think its very nice thing for people to do but just doesn't enter into my travel plans!

Am I shallow or is it everyone to their own?

Would it not be better to give up the holiday totally and donate the money to a much more worthy cause? Or is it for personal gratification to take away some of the guilt of having a good time while the less fortunate go without?

I am not knocking it but just don't fully understand,I have been to Bali many times but have not seen any poverty but I also don't go looking for it.

I see people at home lining up in soup kitchens but I don't go and buy them a good meal when I walk out of a resturant.

I must be very shallow.
