Hello all!
Apologies in advance for asking about money again!
Off to Bali in 6 more sleeps. My husband, 5 children (aged between 10 and 15 years) and myself.
Obviously taking lots of money.... don't feel quite right leaving thousands of dollars lying around in a ? unsecured room safe.
Had planned on taking some cash, travelers cheques and ATM and CC for backup. Was happy with this plan, until...
Just spoke to a girl at Travelex... she said not to bother with travelers cheques as you get charged about A$10 to cash them in Bali plus they are not widely accepted. Is this true??? She suggested the Travelex Cash Passport which sounded good until she told me it would cost me A$3.75 for each withdrawal PLUS a 8.45% conversion fee for each withdrawal!!! If I withdrew A$250 (If I could find an ATM to give me that much in one go!) I would be hit with nearly $25 worth of fees!!! Did I hear her right???
So now I am VERY confused. I know most of you just take cash but I really don't feel good about leaving $5,000 + dollars in a safe. If I use my ATM card I can only access relatively small amounts each time which won't go far between the 7 of us, so the ATM withdrawal fees ($5 each withdrawal with my bank) will add up very quickly.
What should I do???
-mrsxtro.
