Even though the ATM's only issue a certain amount of cash per access, I think you'll find it is still enough. We had 6 of us and, once I discovered that Commonwealth Bank charges A$2 per transaction and the rates were not too bad, I was right.
Take some cash. Get the hotel payment together in cash if you wish and keep it aside. Get departure tax ready and don't touch, and then go for it.
Use traveller's cheques if you wish, but often, looking at convenience and exchange rates, it is beter to go with the ATM. Find an ATM that distributes the most per transaction and take out the maximum each time. What you don't use, you can put aside until you do.
And leave your CC locked up!!!!
