Got back last week from a cruise around NZ. Enjoyed my first cruise. Wife & I got talking to an elderly woman in a bar. OK till I mentioned that we go to Bali quite often. She froze and asked why we were supporting such a corrupt country.
Of course the Schapelle Corby case came up. How dare they imprison an Australian...she was breaking the law..... but she was innocent....how do you know?....anyway in Australia she would only have got a couple of years, not 20....she wasn't in Australia....well the Indonesians should follow Australian law....they are a foreign sovreign country, how can you tell them what to do in their country?....we have a superior system....maybe they have the right idea....you are an evil man.
Then the 14yo boy...how could they imprison him....he broke the law....not Australian law... yes he did but he wasn't in Australia...anyway the police set him up....maybe but he was stupid enough to .....etc. etc. etc.
I find it very frustrating that many people think that their system should prevail over foreign countries. I travelled to Bangladesh often on business but wasn't stupid enough to walk down the road swigging from a bottle of whiskey.
OK this may have been discussed many times before but I find it amazing that such attitudes still prevail.
