Had a similar discussion with a first time visitor to Bali who was only there reluctantly for a family occassion. He was going on about how uncivilised their laws were and how dare they imprison Australians so harshly etc etc - I then pointed out that Singapore had similar laws and in the last few years had carried out a death penalty on an Australian drug courier. Malaysia & Thailand also have some pretty strict laws with quite a few foreigners facing lengthy stays in prisons.
