look at Australia and some of the ridiculously lenient sentencing that goes on there in disbelief??.
We are a laughing stock when it comes to the way we treat those who inflict violence on elderly people or kill innocent people by driving intoxicated etc.
Before any Australian starts to criticise any other country for the way they treat criminals (be they Aussies or anyone else) Australians need to look at their own system of justice and get that right first.
Your "friend" at the bar needs to search long and hard for another country to tour without "supporting corruption".
They are very few and far between, and Australia itself probably isn't one of them.
