Hi All, I received this information today, just to keep us all informed.

Today the Department of Health and Ageing confirmed rabies in Bali dogs and that there have been a number of human deaths following dog bites these are consistent with rabies.

Although dogs have only been identified as carriers at this stage, the thinking is that any Bali animal bite might be a risk for rabies transmission.

DoHA will draft a letter for GPs that will include travel medicine clinics. This will note that p 119 of 9th edn Imm handbook relaring Bali is no longer correct and rabies exposure should be considered for all animal bites in Bali. Plan is to send this out soon (next few days).

A media release has been discussed from DoHA that will warn of rabies in Bali and advise people to avoid animals.
