Sorry.. another motor bike insurance query.. but I want to make sure that my understanding is correct.
Does anyone know if the information in the below link from the BTF archives is still current? ie that you can only get an International Licence for a motorbike if you have a FULL Australian licence.. so if I only have learners (have learners now) or P plates (sitting test soon) I also need to get a local licence that will be valid for 30 days, and then as I am going to Bali for 2 months I would need to apply and sit the test twice..
I contacted covermore by email to ask about their motorbike/scooter clause and they asked for my contact number as they wanted to discuss it on the phone (it was interesting that they wouldnt confirm in writing that a local Indonesian licence is a valid licence..) and they said that I will be covered if I take out the addtional motorbike cover and the following applies (copied from policy)..
• the engine capacity is 200cc or less;
• You are wearing a helmet;
• You are not participating in a professional capacity;
• You are not racing; and
• whilst in control of a motorcycle, You hold a licence valid in the
relevant country.
I quizzed them on the wording of "you hold a licence valid in the relevant country". They said that it varies from country to country and that if I was in an accident I would need to provide documentation to prove that I had a valid licence. They wouldnt budge and expand much further than the policy wording.
Has anyone had experience with using a local Indonesian licence as proof of a valid licence in an insurance claim? Were you successful? Just want to make sure that I have everything covered so if, touch wood, something should happen I am covered. Thanks.
