I have been told by insurance companies, that even if you get an Indonesian motor bike licence and you dont have a licence relevant in your OWN country...they will not pay out. This makes sense, knowing that you can get a motor bike licence in Bali legally or illegally, without having to go to Denpasar!...When I lived there for two years, admittedly six years ago and it may have changed since then....I obtained a legal licence in Denpasar, only had my photo taken at police station, barttered the cost and had never ridden a bike in my life before that. Luckily never had an accident because I have since found out, that my insurance companies (and I use two, Covermore and Suresaver) would never have paid out because of that clause. I have seen some horrific injuries since then on both local and tourist friends and the cost unbelievable. I dont know about the helmet clause and would be interested, cos I wear the highest rating (Indonesian) but know that is not good enough in Australia so where do we stand insurance wise...Definitely take out the extra $25 cover for bikes ...having an Australian or International Motor Vehicle Driving Licence, means nothing in this case.
