Hi Guys,

Just to let you know I was the victim of an attempted bag snatch in Seminyak 9.30pm Saturday night 16/01/10. I was dragged 50metres by the offending motorcycle ripping all the skin from my right leg. Luckily I had a firm grip and almost pulled them off the bike but they let go before falling over....and luckily the taxi behind me stopped in time.

An australian family who live there helped me out and tried cleaning my leg. We rang the consulate about 11pm but all they could say was go to the hospital and contact the Police in 24hrs as the Police won't attend and there was nothing more they can do. So we went to the hospital 2million RP later but as I kept my bag I was told by all the locals that the Police won't care and will charge me to make a report (I lost my watch during the incident). I wasn't in any frame of mind to deal with that so did not go to a Police Station. I needed medical attention each day to remove bandages and clean my wounds and rebandage at my hotel clinic. I didn't know about the clinic until another tourist told me about it, the hotel staff did not let me know.

They are warning tourists over there regarding bag snatches and also snatching bags from open windows in cars etc when stopped in traffic etc so you might want to let other travellers know. As I was leaving to go to the airport security asked what happened and they told me that they would have gone to the Police with me as part of looking after guests at the hotel but it was too late by then and I wasn't advised by reception of that option when I told them what had happened.

So thats that!

I guess I need to submit an insurance claim now.

Please be careful and don't take a bag anywhere if you can!
