To claim back home on your travel / gold card Insurance, the first thing they will ask for is a report of the incident from the "local relevant authority". I speak from experience, in Phuket three years ago when (mea culpa) I had gold chains CUT from my neck at the Thai boxing stadium in Bangala Road.

Upon attending at the District Police to report the matter (Yes, I know, I should have contacted the Tourist Police) the Officer requested an administration fee of A$300.00 for the report as he knew I needed one for a claim to be made back home.

I made up a quick story that I would have to attend back later as I had no ready cash on me - thus no written report.

Put the claim in when I returned home, explained what happened at the Police Station, they accepted my explanation and paid.

Temptation plus opportunity by the culprit(s), and in my case, stupidity, put me in a very dangerous position with the local authority.

Hope it works out well for you Carmen.....
