Carmen. One thing though. You will often hear that anything bad is done by Javanese which is just not so. It's an inter-island prejudice thing. The Balinese will tell you the Javanese are crooks whilst the Javanese will tell you the Balinese are sly. Everyone will tell you that the Sumatrans are direct to the point of rudeness and so on and so on ad infinitum. Sadly whilst it may have been a Javanese who committed this assault, it may also have been a Balinese.

I was warned when staying in South Sanur because I had got a bit relaxed and was carrying my bag on the shoulder closest to the traffic. I suppose if you wear it accross your body over your shoulder you may be a less attractive target. There again your injuries could end up worse I suppose.
