travellers cheques

my partner and i are making our 1st trip to bali and wanting to ask where is best place to get travellers cheques ?? Here in Aus (newcastle) or wait till we get to bali ??? Ive been told Anerican Express TC's are ones to go for but would love to hear from the seosoned travellers ..
