Chq's. There was a scam happening at the time and I just happen to be in Malaysia. All my money was in T. Chq's. ATMS and CC's werent of their time either. It was an ordeal. Once upon a time the US dollar was the king pp in Asia. I really think thats not the case as much.
In Bali the AUS dollar is very well accepted. $50 & $100 notes offer better rates of exchange. However, as suggested always take a combo Cash AUS $, Debit card and CC back up. Let your bank know where you are travelling and for how long. The cost for this set up ZIP. However forATM and CC usage do be aware of their fees as it varys.
Most hotels have safes and you only need to take with u anticpated cash usage for the day.
