Best way to do it is to change a small amount of AUD$ into rupiah prior to departure, bring a couple of Visa debit cards (let your bank in aus know you'll be o/seas) and either use local ATM's or go to the BCA (Bank Central Asia) Card Centre and withdraw funds over the counter. Much cheaper then buying TC or currency in aust. They do charge a Rp 30,000 fee though, which is approximately $4 not like in Aus min $8... Hope this helps ;)
