We get our Travellers Cheques from the Commonwealth - never had any problems. Hubby in particular prefers to take the bulk of his $ in TCs as he spends 2 months in Indonesia surfing in places where security is lax, hotel safes non-existent. TCs are readily replaced. For just around Bali, I take a mixture of cash, TCs, debit & credit cards - & I try not to use the cards.
