An friend currently in Bali contacted me the other day. While we were chatting she told me about an incident that took place at her friends shop recently.

I have been mulling this over for the last few days and dont understand what would make a tourist behave in such an apalling manner. This is what she told me had happened.

This woman came in and chatted about purchasing, mainly articles of clothing to resell back in her country. [I am of the understanding that she was not Australian.] After painstakingly selecting many different pieces, they discussed prices / discount etc and the total cost came to over 2 million rupiah. [quite a substantial sale for a shop keeper at the moment]. So with the price agreed, and while the woman waited, all the merchandise was bagged up. The shop keeper then said... ok all ready so the total is 2.5 million.

Apparently the woman looked at him and said ...no i have changed my mind, I dont want any of it now. She gave no other excuse and turned around and walked out.

What kind of person does something like that ??? The Balinese are doing it tough over there. Could someone possibly derive some sort of sick pleasure from behaving like this ??

Needless to say if this woman is seen again, she will not be welcome to set foot in that shop or the others in the area. Shop keepers now extremely cautious of anyone coming in to do 'business'.

I belive this story to be true as my Aust friend knows the shopkeeper very well. Anyone heard of psycho's out there doing this ???? Be interested to know others thoughts.
