I'm a couple of years from retirement and do like to ponder options for my wife and I. There was an article in today's paper about a bloke who lives in Thailand very cheaply _ for a fraction of the income he gets from renting his house in NZ.

I admire what Ron and some others do for a lifestyle in Bali, but was more thinking along the lines of a month in a villa each year. I don't want to rough it too much, so a decent standard would be required, but not at the level we presently pay at hotels like Lokha, Psaradis and Kumala Pantai.

A pool would be essential, a bar and restaurant not so much as I know where to get cheap eats and a cold Bintang or two wouldn't break the budget.

I don't know what regular posters like Rhonda and Hoolz do, but some feedback on ways to spend a month in a villa in Bali, near Legian for example, would be appreciated.

In the meantime we will pay higher rates and stay at nice hotels and resorts.

I guess I'm looking for options to ponder.
