really an option. People will rent a villa out for a year or 5 years. You have to pay the total rental up front. But to find a place that will rent for just one month is near on impossible.
We have many people who stay with us for 6 or 7 weeks a year. Our two bedroom villas are $100 AUD a night including breakfast. There is a pool plus plenty of cold beer. The beach is a 2 minute walk away. The rooms are half that rate so a month stay costs them $1,500 (Aud).
Many tourists holiday at the same time most years so the regular long termers are always greeting and meeting old friends.
Cheaper accommodation does not necessarily mean roughing it.
The N.Z. pension rules are probably different to the Oz pension rules, so check them out. You may be able to retire now and still get the aged pension when you get to the qualifying age.
In my case I can not get the Oz pension when I get to be a real old bugger.
