Just got back today from 3 weeks there and found that there are a few other taxi companies that will put their meters on straight away, other than the Bluebirds. Look for the Komotra and Ngurah Rai taxis also, never had a problem with them. Apparently the Bluebirds are owned from Jakarta and the majority of the fare goes to the owner, which is what's upsetting the Bali people. The other taxi companies are all owned locally and all the money stays in Bali.
