carry for kids

Hi, my name is Addie and I will be going to Bali in April. I will be traveling with two others and we all want to take a large striped bag of clothes etc for 'carry for kids'. Has anyone been recently that has flown Qantas/Garuda who has taken orphan donations? How much can they weight and can we still have a suitcase each aswell?
Has any one recently come home that has over shopped and had any ecxess weight charged to them via Garuda?
