I took my donations over in November in the stripey bags and was picked up straight away going through customs in Bali. The custom man was all for taking the lot off me and I told him they were for my family in Bali (a small lie). He said next time you use proper suitcase. I was not overweight either, I had 2 stripey bags full of clothes, and 2 hand luggage bags, 1 with my own stuff in. I purchased a new suitcase over there. If I was you I would pack anything you have to donate in with your own stuff, ask Garuda for extra allowance. Take your stripey bags in with your suitcase and then you can transfer them once in your rooms.
Remember you can have 20 kilos in the luggage and 7 kilos on the plane......use a lanyard for your phone, tickets and camera. Wear clothes with big pockets and use them to the full. Have sunglasses and hat on your head and anything else you can wear without being too uncomfortable. You can look ridiculous but then once on the plane you can transfer all this into your hand luggage. You don't get weighed as you arrive so you don't have to put it all back on!
