Yes I am American and am 24 : ) my budget (excluding airfare) is about $1500 USD. I was really considering staying in a hostel to keep costs low and I do not plan on spending much time there anyways. Would a hostel be a good/bad idea? I am desperately trying to convince my parents to allow me to go alone as I am definitely not dumb enough to put myself in a dangerous situation--the whole Natalie Holloway thing is what they keep bringing up ugh!! I have checked out the Lonely Planet (its my favorite!) and all the tours I have found definitely do not allow me to go/do all the things I would like to on my own.
