Your budget should be fine for 8-10 days. There are plenty of good hotels around $40. In Legian Grand Kumala is good & close to the beach & good restaurants, in Kuta you could try Masa Inn or La Walon in Poppies 1. DO book ASAP.
You can easily arrange day trips there. The Bike Baik bicycle tour is excellent - about $45 for the day. A day trip to Lembongan. A cooking class etc etc. So much to do.
Hope your parents coea around. I'd have no qualms if you were my daughter but I know Bali & obviously your parents don't. You seem to have your head screwed on. BTW, who is Natalie Holloway?
