Internet connection

I am not savy to the technics of the internet But I want to take my laptop to Bali and was wondering should I buy a stick thingo here in Aust' or buy one in Bali so I can get internet connection i.e. from my room/balcony. The hotel we are staying at does not have WiFi.
I have the stick thingo which I used once and it has now expired. could I get it recharged and possibly put Bali on it.?? But would it be cheaper to just buy the stick thingo in Bali. We are going to be in Bali for 2 weeks in late July. - In Tanjung Benoa

P.S. I do use skype to send SMS to my daughter in another state of Aust.....can I do the same in Bali using the skype on my laptop??.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
