travellers cheques?

Just wondering what the most common way of spending in Bali is now? Are travellers cheques still the way to go?we drew from our visa last time but i felt we didnt keep track well enough of what we spent!I was going to take a debit card but hubby not big on that and we have heard a bit about skimming?
