If you can afford to lose your money then just take cash. T/Cs are a minimal inconvenience to exchange & are readily replaced if lost/stolen. Up to you, of course, but I choose to take mostly TCs, with some cash and debit & credit cards for emergencies. Not only can I not afford to lose the cash, thieves know it's hard to cash TCs.
