I am also not an expert, however, I would think that no insurance company in Australia would cover you for third party damages outside of Australia. Your travel insurance is for "you" in the case of injury, illness, loss of luggage etc. I may be wrong, but I could not really seeing them agreeing to pay for damage to property outside of Aust.
