international roaming/bali sim card

I know this has been talked about a lot before but I am getting confused. I am with Virgin in Australia and they have quoted me approx $2 a minute for a phone call and 50c a text from Indonesia to Perth if I activate international roaming on my phone. I think that is reasonable but then I read about the Bali Sim cards - they seem so cheap. Any advice please?? Many thanks
