We were there last week and bought an XL Bebas prepaid sim card .

This is the one we were told to get because it was meant to get the cheapest call cost and we cant argue with that after using it.

Make sure your mobile phone is not locked.

Initial purchase cost was Rp55,000 with Rp10,000 top up We chose the Rp100,000 top up and it was very good also included 100 free SMS in Bali and about 5 cents to SMS Australia.

As stated when we called someone there was a delay when talking but when we recieved calls from Australia there was no delay and the callers said that the calls from prepaid phones were also cheap.

You could buy these sim cards most everywhere.

Our average call cost to Australia worked out to be from 25 to 50 cents per call for upto 5 minutes and sometimes upto $1 for extended calls.

Calling Mobiles 01000 drop the zero and call the other numbers.
i.e. if the mobile No. is 0413 1234 use 01000 then 413 1234.

For land lines call 01000 61 then area code again drop the zero and the number number.
i.e. if the area code is 03 dial 01000 61 3 939 1234.

The 61 prefix is for Australia ask for other country prefixes from the sellers.

Remember to always use the 01000 number before you dial the rest of the numbers or you account will dissapear very quickly as my son soon found out when he failed to use the numbers on some occasions.

Top up cards range from Rp.10,000 50,00 100,000 to 200,000.
We were getting approx Rp.8500 to the Au$1

Depends on your frequency of use as to how much you will need.

Hope this also helps .
