It's his birthday, so i wouldn't take gifts for the village children, gifts for the whole family and nor would i offer money.
I'd take one birthday present for him, and i'd probably take a birthday cake and candles.
Even if they do have a cake, two cakes is better than one :P
I'll never forget the enormous pleasure an elderly Balinese man had when he blew out his candles on his special day. He couldn't stop smiling. He said, "I've never had a birthday cake before."
