In regard to the birthday cake - We have made very good friends with a family over the years. When we first met we would get a birthday cake, but after knowing them for a few years our friend admitted that the children were not used to cake and did not really like it. Then again other friends (that work in Kuta) enjoy getting a cake. It depends what they are used to eating.
