I wholeheartedly agree that ALL costs should be shown in the one up-front price.
Back 10 years, however, there was just the Airfare + a given amount for Australian Departure Tax.
All I was suggesting is to compare "apples with apples", by deducting the Taxes/Surcharges from prices charged for a ticket today - then comparing with the Airfare paid even 20 years ago - and you will find that there is little difference and, in some instance, this is now actually cheaper than those times.
I wasn't wearing rose coloured glasses, Ted. If you thoroughly re-read what I wrote I think you may see it from a different perspective.
