with apples as in your context cannot be done if you take out the surcharge, as all the surcharge is,apart from aus departure taxes of one kind and another,is a fuel charge and should be charged up front and IF it was added in like that then yes certainly there would be a difference in pricing.
That is not to say that airfares should be artificially low but if qantas,singapore etc can make a profit on the prices they charge then so can garuda charging the same fares.
If there had not been the corruption in the running of garuda,and i'm not just talking management,then garuda would have had the profits over a number of years rather than the losses they have suffered and subsequent cutbacks not just on adelaide and brisbane routes but new zealand and europe have all been cancelled and personally I blame this not on customers not paying enough but bad decisions in management right through to the very top.
