Resorts of Bali forNew Visitors

We are a 50+ couple and I am still trying to decide what resort to stay in as I have not been to Bali before and I cannot work out what is the main resorts. I read a lot about Nusa Dua and Tuban and Sanur and Seminyak but what are the main resorts and can someone please explain what to expect in these resorts.
We like dining out and after dinner on an evening we have a few beers and some socalising. What is the best resort on the island to have a nice time but nowhere that is to quite. Please Help Me decide.
