Scotie ,You can breakit up roughly in this fashion.Nusa Dua is to the south of the island about 30 min from the airport. It consists primerly of REsort Type Hotels 4 to 5 star and is quite . Sanur is the same but mostly 2 to 4 star acccomadations but more places to eat and is mostly used by families and older people .Sanur is on the east coast about 15 min from the airport. Semanyak is about 20 min from the airport and is a developeing area for Villas and new hotels again it has a mix of 2 to 5 star accomadation and some good resturants but still pretty quiet . The main area has always been Kuta Legien area Accomadation ranges from -1 To 5 star bustling night life plenty of bars discos etc more shops than you care to think about its 10 min from the airport on the west coast. Tuban is a extention of Kuta to the south. My sugestion for you is to stay in legien as its a good comprmise good hotels ETC and good shoping a wide mix of age groups but a bit quieter rhan Kuta but only 10min away . Hotels Niksoma 5 star + Kumla Panti 3 star but great Jayakarta 3 star good value all these are beach front and good value (niksoma is a bit expensive but very very nice)We usualy have coffee and sweets there after eating elsewhwere.No matter where you stay in Bali you will meet people and socialise over a beer just the nature of ther beast , I hope you have a great time we dont go back to January unfortuneatly.
