'when your time is up it's up' are people who really dont think it will happen to them. Sort of the way 17 year olds think a lot of the time. I think also, that the expression taken literally is, of course, true. Its like saying 'when you're dead, you're dead'! Of course your are. But when fate is invoked as a reason, I wonder if the concept has been thought through. Its amazing how fate chooses people who dont wear seatbelts, drive drunk, speed excessively, smoke cigarettes etc and genuinely engage in known to be risky behaviour. And do the proponents of fate believe that you influence your own fate or is it totally out of your own hands. Do they belive that if fate has chosen me to live a long life I can do whatever I like with no precautions and I'll still live until I'm 105 or does fate say that I'm likely to live a long live as long as I protect that life. Its a complicated way of thinking if you think about it :)
