The sooner the Esplanade is developed the better .It has been run down for years. It is possibly one of the best sites in and around Kuta ,Legian and Seminyak but does not have much appeal except for the beach. The sooner it is developed into cafes, resturants,shops and accomodation the better .
As for the Gold Coast, what's wrong with it apart from the shadows on the beach of an afternoon, you get the same effect on a cloudy day .It is Australias premier tourist strip so it must have something going for it. And what about all the employment it creats from the building industry through to hospitality .
So I have to disagree with you ,progress and development is not a bad thing, but being in a time warp is.
