will not be bought off you at face value because this is an urban myth that they are used for jewellry,the metal is imported for the jewellry,i have heard from india? but dont know if this is true or not.If theyare asking for coins it is a form of begging but have not seen it happen personally rather the other way round were they ask you to change the coins for notes as the money changers wont change them to rupiah for them,as they dont in most countries.
