Luggage - Large stripy bags

Are seriously contemplating taking the large stripy bags to Bali instead of my heavy suitcases (or a mix of) and was wondering if anyone also does this. If so how have you secured them so the zip does'nt give way. I was thinking about using masking tape. Has anyone had any bag experiences with these breaking. Thopught I would mostly use it for the bulkier lightweight items. Thanks in advance
