They can just snip away the tape and string near the zipper to look inside them. We didn't have any problems. I can never get everything back into a suitcase once they have gone through them as I am a pretty tight packer.
We had bought those bags on wheels at Denpasar airport (rph 100,000) to wheel our carry on and duty free around as we were a while at the airpot, so any "overspills" went into these. Trust me, with a bit care they will out fine ... 6-8kg lost to a suitcase is criminal in my book when you only 20kg!!!
