Thanks for your historical information. I was however using "they don't eat" as a figure of speech to make a point. I have been to Bali 8 times and no I haven't been to a disco and I am sure that many others go to Bali for other reasons than the "disco's. So your comment about without tourists all they will have lost is Disco's is a little narrow minded. No the Balinese will not starve but their way of life will certainly be severly impacted upon by the loss of tourists. Tourists provide the need for hotels (which employ people), tourists need transport (which employ people), tourists buy goods (which provides employment, restaurants serve meals (which require staff to serve), etc etc. Considering that the Balinese do not have access to unemployment benefits, free medical or pensions like we do in Australia, yes the loss of the tourist dollar will have impact on the people. But that's just my opinion.
