Where does the food come from?

Since we all go to Bali and eat about five times as much as Balinese eat, wouldn't they have more food if nobody went?

For centuries, other than when Tambora erupted in the 1820's and the volcanic ash destroyed all the crops, Balinese have had plenty to eat. It's only recently that large numbers of malnutrition cases have occurred in Nusa Tengarra, despite this region being one of Indonesia's largest food exporting regions.

The Balinese will never starve without tourists and foreign meddling. They just won't have any discos.
