75% of the world's population live in poverty, but we have the luxury of debating the motivations of some bombers who killed a tiny fraction of a percent of the number of people who die each year from malnutrition.
The main cause of poverty is war. The other big cause is the concentration of wealth. There are starving people in the UK, US, Australia, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and many other "wealthy" countries.
Poverty leads to desperation. When you are desperate, you are easily manipulated. Eliminating poverty won't eliminate the extreme notions of power-hungry people, but it will limit the number of desperate people willing to go along with the plan.
