1st time to Bali - Honeymoon- lots of ??

My fiance and I are considering going to Bali on our honeymoon. We have never been and have lots of questions.
Is it safe to travel to Bali?
Is there anything we need to be aware of?
What type of activities/adventures are there to do in Bali?
Our travel agent recommends spending 2 days in Bangkok or Hong Kong to break up the long travel from the US. Any suggestions?
