Bali Timeshare Schemes-questions

Can anyone help with advice. On our last trip tp Bali (April 2004)we were hasseled many times in Kuta to take part in a "survey" and by participating we could win a weeks free accommodation at a five* resort. We declined at the time, but are wondering if the promo is legit or a scam.
We would like to hear from anyone who has taken the offer up, and what their thoughts are. If you are a frequent traveller to Bali wouldn't it be cheaper than paying for hotel/resort accommodation each time??
