Hi team,
Just thought I'd mention the biggest frustration I had in Bali just recently. I bought a new sim card over there XL as I always do. I ususally find this the best and cheapest option for communication while away. Couldn't get more than 6 messages back to Australia in 10 days and sometimes sat in pending mode for up to 3 days for a local sms.
I swapped over to Simpati which has been good to me before and same problems exactly. My friend was devestated as we couldn't easily get in touch with her kids. Another friend of mine was with Telstra Global roaming and his communications packed up half way through the trip also.
I had the same phone I used last trip and was contacting the same people with no luck. I'm told that the Australian networks are trying to make it harder for the indo networks so they stop losing out money with the likes of me. I'm also told that there was a major satelite problem that affected Telstra and bigpond.
I'd be happy to hear from anyone who can explain why this all happened. Does anyone have the lowdown on telecommunications right now???? I need to know for future reference for a multitude of reasons.
To another subject, I'd like to think that you're all putting up a prayer or what ever you believe in for Shapelle Corby. Hits pretty close to home for those of us who live on the Gold Coast and have a passion for Bali. I'd like to think that she's innocent and coming home soon. I wish her well.
On a brighter note, man is she going to clean up financially with the magazine articles, 60 minutes and the book. Good for her I wreckon. You'd want a bit of a rebate after 6 months in Kerobokan.
One more observation.... Is that solicitor of hers Crazy Ron the Mobile phone guy????? Isn't he the one who had the big legal battle and had to change his company name to Mad Ron's. I'm sure it is, can't be too many guys named Ron who look like that. How bizarre...
Happy Travels
