Cancellation Problems

I would like to know if any other Bali Forumites have ever had to cancel a fare to Bali after paying in full, and what they ended up paying as a result. Recently, I had to cancel my son's fare as due to job obligations he was unable to come with us. I had made a booking for five, and after the cancellation that left four of us. I have now been informed that I will probably only get back about $150 of the original $832, due to fees, surcharges etc. This seems extremely unfair, as I gave them 6 weeks notice and I am sure they could re-sell the airplane seat and accomodation in that time, even if they didn't I don't see why I should have to pay for something I am not using. Has anyone else had this experience, I would be very interested to hear about it, as I am considering contacting consumer affairs and the AATA (Aust Assoc of Travel Agents I think).
