I'm not criticising the AATA, as I've never had any dealings with them, but they may be more in the nature of a trade union for travel agents and more interested in looking after the interests of their members, rather than looking after members of the public. If that is so, then I'm not criticising that either, because that is the prime function of a trade union, but forewarned is forearmed.
As a possible analogy, I have twice been treated in an inappropriate manner by the Real Estate Institute of WA when I contacted them for advice [they do have a "public enquiries" listed phone number], before I realised that they are, in effect, the Western Australian estate agents' trade union.
