Yogyakarta Safe?

Hi
Is it as safe for tourists (especially Americans) in Yogyakarta as it is in Bali? We would really like to see Borobudur and Prambanan, but we dislike being decapitated. Also, can anyone recommend a good place to stay under about $25 USD/night?
